The War Against Ukraine: Russia's Motive, Europe's Response, and Its Impact on EU and Transatlantic Relations

A conversation with

Klaus Welle
Secretary-General of the European Parliament

and

Peter Clement
Senior Research Scholar and Adjunct Professor
Interim Director, Arnold A. Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies in the School of International and Public Affairs

This discussion will explore the politics of Russia's war on Ukraine and of Europe's response to date—looking at why President Putin launched the war, what he hopes to achieve both in Europe and in shifting the wider geopolitical balance, how the war is already changing the institutions and policies of the European Union, and what the implications are for the future of Transatlantic relations.

Columbia University students are invited to participate in a moderated question and answer session following the discussion.

Cosponsored by the Center on Global Economic Governance and Harriman Institute.
